October 5, 2007 - Integration Technology,
Inc. Highlights Bond Technologies in PM Network Magazine
: HEALTHY PROGRESS FOR MEDICAL SOFTWARE SUPPLIER
Bond Technologies, a provider of electronic health records
and practice management software, needed a management
software program of its own. The company wanted to improve
expense tracking and determine the true cost for each
project, which wasn’t always apparent in the multiple
spreadsheets and applications Bond was relying on. The
company was also looking for ways to reduce implementation
and accounting costs, but it didn’t have a handle
on the costs and time staff members spent on each task
and project. Click

September 11, 2007 - New Report: Dangerous Drug
Side Effects and Deaths Doubled Since 1998... Seniors
Hit Hardest
PCMA: Time to Require E-Prescribing in Medicare
(Washington, DC) — A new report that finds dangerous
drug side effects and deaths—particularly among
seniors—has more than doubled since 1998 underscores
the urgency for Congress to act now to require electronic
(e) prescribing in Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Care Management
Association (PCMA) said today.
“This study found that seniors are disproportionately
affected by serious adverse drug events, which underscores
why we need to require e-prescribing in Medicare immediately.
Requiring e-prescribing in Medicare could prevent up to
1.9 million medication errors over the next decade,”
said PCMA President & CEO Mark Merritt.
The report, published in this week’s issue of the
Archives of Internal Medicine, analyzed serious adverse
drug events received by the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) between January 1998 and December 2005, including
death, disability and hospitalizations. The study found
467,809 such occurrences during the period studied, with
the number of deaths due to drugs spiking from 5,519 to
15,107.
PCMA recently released a study from the Gorman Health
Group that found requiring e-prescribing in Medicare could
prevent up to 1.9 million medication errors over the next
decade. E-prescribing technology helps consumers avoid
adverse drug events by providing physicians with a comprehensive
patient medication history and automatic electronic safety
alerts before the prescription is sent to the pharmacy.
“By providing physicians with real-time safety
alerts and their patients’ medication history, e-prescribing
prevents dangerous drug-to-drug interactions and doctor
shopping,” added Merritt.
PCMA is the national association representing America’s
pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), which administer prescription
drug plans for more than 210 million Americans with health
coverage provided through Fortune 500 employers, health
insurance plans, labor unions, and Medicare
Part D.

Bond
Technologies Awarded Top Pediatric EHR
Dallas, TX, May 22, 2007 - Bond Technologies,
an industry leading provider of Electronic Health Record
Software, was awarded 1st place today for the American
Academy of Pediatrics’ Pediatric Clinical Documentation
Challenge held at the 23rd Annual Toward an Electronic
Patient Record (TEPR) conference being held in Dallas,
Texas this week.
The Clinical Documentation Challenge offers electronic
health records vendors the opportunity to demonstrate
their pediatric functionality in two presentations, based
on scenarios released 24 hours prior to the presentation.
Some of the functionality required for the morning presentation
includes demonstrating the ability to import Continuity
of Care Records (CCR), as well as five or six crucial
elements for Pediatric EHR requirements. Vendors are given
approximately 15 minutes to demonstrate the requested
functionality. At the end of the “visit,”
vendors are required to produce an AAP/ACEP Emergency
Information Form for the patient, as well as to show how
they electronically export both a prescription, and the
CCR. The afternoon presentation demonstrates a typical
office visit that a pediatrician would see in a normal
work day.
Scoring is weighted at 70% for the morning presentation,
and 30% for the afternoon scenario demonstration. Judges
are all practicing pediatricians who are members of the
Council on Clinical Information Technology of the American
Academy of Pediatrics. Each is familiar with EHR software,
but has no conflicts of interest with any of the participants.
Bond Technologies’ demonstrations were led by Amy
Gleason, Bond’s VP of Product Development and Implementation,
as well as practicing pediatrician, Dr. Gregg Alexander
of Madison Pediatrics. Dr. Alexander has been using Bond
Clinician™ in his state-of-the-art pediatric clinic,
for over a year.
About Madison Pediatrics
Madison Pediatrics is devoted to providing the best pediatric
medical care in a child-friendly atmosphere with compassion
and understanding. Dr. Gregg Alexander and his team continuously
strive to provide the most complete and technologically
advanced pediatric medical services with easy and prompt
access to care. For more information about Madison Pediatrics,

CCHIT
TAPS SURESCRIPTS TO CERTIFY E-PRESCRIBING INTEROPERABILITY
OF ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS
Pre-Existing SureScripts Certification Prepares
14 EHR Vendors for Meeting Requirements for Exchanging
Health Information
Alexandria, Va. – April 17, 2007
– SureScripts® today announced that the Certification
Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHITSM
) has selected it as one of the health information exchanges
to certify e-prescribing interoperability for electronic
health record (EHR) systems. Vendors of ambulatory (office-based)
EHR products can satisfy the CCHIT certification requirements
for electronic prescribing and sharing of prescription
information by completing certification for the following
SureScripts services:
- E-Prescribing – facilitates the electronic transmission
of new prescriptions from physician to pharmacist;
- E-Refills – enables physicians to electronically
receive and respond to refill authorizations from pharmacies;
- Rx History – allows physicians to electronically
access patient medication history from pharmacies and
payers;
- Eligibility and Formulary – provides physicians
with real-time, electronic access to information from
patient drug plans.
Part of CCHIT’s recently approved 2007 criteria
for ambulatory (office-based) EHRs requires that, to achieve
certification, EHR products demonstrate the ability to
provide electronic connectivity to pharmacies for the
transmission of new prescriptions and refill authorizations.
These criteria will take effect May 1, 2007.
CCHIT has developed certification criteria based on technical
standards for sharing information that have been reviewed
and approved by the Healthcare Information Technology
Standards Panel (HITSP). Once HITSP approves a standard,
CCHIT’s work groups may reference that standard
in the development of conformance criteria used in its
voluntary certification program for EHRs. CCHIT is a federally
Recognized Certification Body in the United States for
certifying health information technology products.
“CCHIT’s work is essential to advancing the
interoperability of the nation’s healthcare system,”
said Kevin Hutchinson, president and CEO of SureScripts.
“This step taken by CCHIT to require EHRs to be
interoperable with pharmacies is the first step toward
overall healthcare interoperability. The pharmacy industry
has spent tens of millions of dollars and thousands of
man hours in preparation for full electronic interoperability
with physicians. Many EHR vendors have previously taken
advantage of this interoperability for their customer
base by achieving certification prior to its becoming
CCHIT criteria. It is a positive step to see those EHR
vendors rewarded for their effort to improve their application
for their users. Integrated electronic prescribing is
quickly replacing a very old and tired traditional prescribing
process based on illegible handwriting and unreliable
fax machines.”
For SureScripts Certified Solution Providers
For those EHR vendors who have already been certified
by SureScripts for a given standard, one step in the process
of complying with CCHIT’s Ambulatory EHR 2007 criteria
has been simplified. To meet the new e-prescribing interoperability
criteria, the EHR vendor forwards the certificate they
received upon completion of the SureScripts product certification
process to CCHIT with other required product documentation.
Today, there are 60 SureScripts Certified Solution Providers
that have completed SureScripts certification for e-prescribing
and e-refills -- 14 of which have products certified by
CCHIT based on Ambulatory EHR 2006 criteria:
- Allscripts (TouchWorks™ EMR)
- Bond Technologies (Bond Clinician™ EHR)
- Community Computer Service (MEDENT)
- eClinicalWorks (eClinicalWorks)
- e-MDs (e-MDs Solution Series)
- EPIC Systems (Epicare Ambulatory EMR)
- Integreat Concepts, Inc. (IC-Chart Release)
- McKesson (Horizon Ambulatory Care™)
- MCS-Medical Communication Systems (mMD.Net EHR)
- MedPlexus, Inc (MedPlexus EHR)
- MedicWare (MedicWare EMR)
- NextGen Healthcare Information Systems (NextGen EMR)
- Practice Partner (Practice Partner)
- SSIMED (EMRge™)
An additional 14 EHR vendors that have products certified
under the CCHIT 2006 criteria are in the process of completing
SureScripts certification for e-prescribing and refills.
Physicians and health IT industry watchers can track the
status of a vendor’s SureScripts certification status
